Club Instructor - James Mitchel

James Mitchel
2nd Dan Blackbelt.
T.A.G.B. Instructor.
James Mitchel

My name is James Mitchell and I hold a third degree black belt in tae Kwon do.
I began my journey at the age of 13 years old wanting to be like Bruce Lee, Jean Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal after seeing the magic they performed on screen.
I achieved my black belt in 1999 at the young age of 18.
In 2000 I was awarded student of the year for the southwest area which was an excellent achievement as the standard within the T.A.G.B is very high.
In 2002 I became a qualified instructor.
I am also a qualified umpire and referee for the sport side of the art.
In 2003 I joined the police, and having a background in martial arts has saved me on more than one occasion.
In 2006 I took on a secondary role to my normal police duties as a tactical defence instructor, teaching officers control and restraint, pressure points, conflict management, baton and handcuffing. I am very passionate about what I do and take great pride in my teachings and my martial art.

My big passion is Self- defence, but not simply learning and teaching techniques but the mind-set behind each, the fear when attacked and the understanding of an attacker. It is easy to teach a technique on how to get out of a situation such as a headlock but the learning comes from not being in that position in the first place and learning how to avoid doing so.

I do a lot of research on self- defence in addition to my knowledge of my art and have a lot to offer as an instructor.
